Black History Month in Hull comes alive with panels, exhibitions, and a night of Afrobeat music celebrating Fela Kuti’s legacy.

For the third year running, Felabration comes to Hull.

On Saturday 17 October 2026, Felabration Hull brings the music, ideas and enduring legacy of Nigerian composer and Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo Kuti to Browse Studios, across a full day of exhibition, film, conversation and live music.

This year's edition is presented under WHO ARE YOU?, the official theme of Felabration 2026, drawn from Fela's own 1971 track Who're You. Felabration Hull takes that question and turns it inward, asking a new generation what we inherit, what we carry and what we choose to become.

WHY THIS MATTERS NOW

Fela Kuti remains one of Africa's most influential musicians and cultural figures. In January 2026, he was posthumously honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Felabration Hull looks beyond the sound itself, reconnecting audiences with the history, ideas and people behind it.

Felabration Hull has been continuously licensed by the Felabration Organising Committee in Lagos, Nigeria, since 2024. This year's edition takes place at Browse Studios, the event's venue partner, and a new creative and community space in Hull.

The exhibition, documentary screening and Forum are free to attend throughout the day. A ticket is required for the evening Tribute Session only.
